Bret Tanzer is a visionary Production Designer with a career that spans over two decades. Hailing from Chicago, he began honing his creative skills at an early age by designing and printing merch for bands, crafting stop-motion videos in miniature sets he built in his mom’s garage, and playing loud, obnoxious punk music. His love for movies and obscure comedy was cultivated through countless viewings of B-Horror flicks and Monty Python sketches.
Bret went on to attend CalArts in Los Angeles where he studied experimental animation and surfed daily—albeit not very well. After knocking around the industry a bit, his grinding Midwestern work ethic and a little bit of luck led him to the Art Department on Christopher Nolan's epic masterpiece "The Dark Knight". This momentous opportunity paved the way for his subsequent work as an Art Director and Graphic Artist on inspiring projects with renowned directors such as Steven Soderbergh, Spike Lee, and Tony Scott.
Bret's most significant contributions as Production Desiger include Andy Siara’s time-jumping series "The Resort", Christian Breslaur’s Emmy-nominated "Worlds Opening" for the League of Legends World Championships, James Morosini’s SXSW Grand Jury Prize-winning dark comedy "I Love My Dad", and Josh Ruben’s beloved horror-comedy "Werewolves Within" (Tribeca Official Selection).
Bret is a proud member of the Art Directors Guild (IATSE 800) and the Production Designers Collective. He is represented by the magnificent folks at Gersh. In his free time, he travels the world with his family, immersing them in diverse cultures and the ever-evolving beauty of nature.
