Hey
Bret Tanzer is a seasoned Production Designer with a career spanning over two decades. He began honing his creative skills at an early age, crafting stop-motion shorts inside miniature sets he’d built in his mom’s garage, screen-printing shirts for bands, and shooting scrappy music videos with like-minded geeks and weirdos. His love for movies and absurdity was cultivated through countless viewings of B-Horror/Sci-fi flicks and Monty Python sketches.
Bret attended CalArts in Los Angeles, where he studied experimental animation, with an emphasis on eating tacos and surfing. As fate would have it, Bret's unwavering work ethic and a sprinkle of serendipity led him to a pivotal moment in his career—the opportunity to contribute to Christopher Nolan's cinematic opus, "The Dark Knight." This milestone unleashed a cascade of opportunities, propelling Bret into the realm of Art Direction and Graphic Artistry, where he collaborated with visionaries like Steven Soderbergh, Spike Lee, and Tony Scott.
Some of Bret’s proudest contributions as Production Desiger include crafting the canvas for Andy Siara’s time-jumping series "The Resort", Christian Breslaur’s fantastical "Worlds Opening" for the League of Legends World Championships (Emmy-nom), James Morosini’s dark comedic gem "I Love My Dad" (SXSW Grand Jury Prize), and Josh Ruben’s beloved horror-comedy "Werewolves Within" (Tribeca Official Selection).
Bret is a proud member of the Art Directors Guild (IATSE 800) and the Production Designers Collective. He is represented by the magnificent folks at Gersh. In his free time, he travels with his family, exposing them to a kaleidoscope of cultures, savoring local cuisine, and basking in the eternal beauty of nature's ever-evolving tableau.
